For the benefit of the readers here are a couple of wrap-ups on what happened at BarcampESM: <a href="http://www.johnmwillis.com/wp/barcamp/barcampesm-wrap-up/" rel="nofollow">John's</a> and <a href="http://talk.bmc.com/blogs/blog-whurley/whurley/barcampesm-wrapup" rel="nofollow">whurley's</a>.
Thanks for the kind words John. I'd consider coming to a future session. Congrats for pulling it off.

William,

I wish we would have met sooner. I think you would have been a great addition to BarcampESM. We had a lower turn out then I expected but it was a great un-conference. I have posted a few blogs on my website about what went on. It was great to watch the open source guys treat the close source guys with respect and vice versa. The day ended with many un-answered questions but those questions were great. We are thinking about doing another one in November and maybe we can get you to come. I have your blog on my reader so I will be in touch...

William,

We are very excited about the DevCampTivoli and I appreciate your comments :)

However, please let me clarify a few items.

1) This is not an IBM sponsored event. I am an independent consultant and Doug and I meet at a Tivoli user's group about a year ago. About once a month we meet for lunch on our own time and discuss issues related to ESM/BSM. In fact we will be both attending the BarCampESM this weekend in Austin. The BarcampESM [http://barcamp.org/BarCampESM] will be the first time close source and open source vendors are going to get together and discuss how to make ESM better. To that end, this is Doug and my primary objective for DevCampTivoli. We plan on making all of the results from the Tivoli Devcamp open (probably Creative Commons - not sure yet).

2) About the setup. We both have been around the block a few times doing Tivoli setups and we have some tricks up our sleeves to eliminate setup time.

3) As for the "Can we get it done". I have more respect for Doug McClure on BSM than anyone I have ever met doing this stuff and I have been doing this stuff for 30 years. Also, I have about 15 years on Tivoli monitoring. The unknown is the community turn out because as you point out the Barcamp concept is normally a foreign concept to close source customers. However, in my little way I am trying to change this (i.e., BarcampESM and DevCampTivoli).

Thank You
